Ian: Hi, I'm planning to visit Hong Kong from 20 Feb to 25 Feb, during the Chinese New Year period. Is this a good time to do. Will most shops be closed? How is the weather like?

  Reply from Webmaster: Hi Ian,

Most shops do close in previous Chinese New Year. However, with the influx of Chinese tourists from China, most shops in the shopping areas are opened during Chinese New Year. Also, there are fireworks (2nd night of Chinese New Year), markets and parades during the period.

It is usually cold during the Chinese New Year.

The Shenzhen Metro connects to Hong Kong's KCR at Lo Wu, which is the northern most part of Hong Kong. You need to change to KCR to go to Tsim Sha Tsui, or then MTR for Central Hong Kong.

maria: we are coming to hongkong in March. could you please give us an estimate for our pocket money? our concern is for food and transportation within hongkong. i hope you can help us. thank you very much

  Reply from Webmaster: Hi Maria,

The price of food and transportation varies in Hong Kong. Food can be affordable, such as Cafe De Carol or Hong Kong local restaurants (between HK$20 to HK$30 per lunch or dinner), or can get more expensive like the restaurants in Central's SoHo or Kowloon's Knutsford Terrace (around or more than HK$100).

Transportation fares varies as well. Trams (on Hong Kong Island) and Ferries (between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon) cost just more than HK$2. Bus fares can be as low as around $4. Cost more for long distance.

Cheers

  Reply from Webmaster: Hi Mario,

Three days would probably be just enough to visit Disneyland (1 Day), Ocean Park (1 Day) and shopping (1 Day). Hong Kong Island is a good place to stay although it is far away from Disneyland, but MTR from Hong Kong Island to Disneyland is very convenient and fast.

  Reply from Webmaster: Hi Regina,

Tsing Yi is easily accessible by MTR (Hong Kong's underground system) and is close to the airport and Disneyland, so it should not be a problem to stay in Tsing Yi.

For the Octopus Card, if you are travelling on the MTR a lot, then you may consider the Airport Express Tourist Octopus, otherwise for a short stay it may not be neccessary as a Refund Handling Fee of HK$7 will be charged if the Octopus Card is returned within three months from the date of issue.

  Reply from Webmaster: Hi Julie,

Hong Kong is a food lover's paradise especially for Chinese food lover, but there are plenty of Western food as well so you may try to eat outside of the hotel for breakfast. For Chinese breakfast you may try morning Yum Cha at any big Chinese Restaurants, or you may try local Hong Kong style fastfood at Cafe De Carol, Maxims or Hong Kong style restaurants where they serve a mix of Hong Kong, Chinese and Western style breakfast and meals.

Also, Hong Kong is safe after dark as Hong Kong has a low crime rate, however some places are crowdy so please take care of your kid.

Terri: We'll be in HK Aug3-17 @ 3 kids. We are vegetarian-no meat, seafood, poultry, etc. Do you have any suggestions for where we could eat? Will waiter understand what vegetarian means? We're so excited, but a little worried about eating.THANK YOU!

  Reply from Webmaster: Dear Terri,

There are quite many vegeterian restaurants in Hong Kong, please find the list of restaurants at Hong Kong Vegan Society.

There is a chance that the waiters/waitresses do not understand the english word Vegetarian, so here we have translated it into Chinese for your reference (in case you need to show them these Chinese words):

Eric Lim: I'm planning for a honeymoon trip to Hong Kong with my wife Jan coming year. It'll be good if you could advise the weather, temp & clothing suggestion.Best if you could put some information about disneyland while doing your next update.

  Reply from Webmaster: Dear Eric,

January is the winter time in Hong Kong. It will be about 10-17 degrees from day to night. Woollens, scarf and coat are suitable. If you plan to walk along the shore it will be quite windy so overcoat is suitable as well. Please bring in cloth that suit your need.

juline: hi there! i''ll be making my 1st trip to hk with another friend for 4 days 3 nitez. wat kind of itinery would u recommend? also, i would like to find out if ocean park is worth a visit, and which offshore islands are worth a peek. =) thanx!!

  Reply from Webmaster: Dear Juline,

Please check out site under "General HK Info - Three Days Tour" that will give you the basic routes and recommendations from us.

For Ocean Park, you would spend most of the day here, particularly with kids if you have any.

Lantau Island, Cheung Chau Island and Lamma Island are popular choices for off shore islands.

I am planning to go for honeymoon to Hongkong this september and now I am preparing the budget.. Please inform me about the range price in Hongkong for eating , shopping, transport and romantic place to go.

  Reply from Webmaster: Dear Henry,

Eating: From HK$20 for local cuisine such as fish ball noodles, Hong Kong style fast food chains or desserts and you will be quite full, to over HK$150 such as buffet, steak, high-end Chinese dinner per person.

Shopping: Depends on what you want to purchase. No sales tax / GST / VAT in Hong Kong.

Transport: Cheapest are Trams (HK Island) and Star Ferries, at around HK$2.2. MTR and Buses are very convenience and start at around HKD$3.9 for short distance to over HK$20 for long distance. Cost more to/from airport.

Romantic: The Peak, Repulse Bay, Stanley, Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront etc.

Please check our guides for detailed information.

JY: My trip to HK is from 30/8 to 2/9, am i too late for the summer sales?
Any place in particular you would recommemnd if i want to grap some cheap yet interesting cloths & souvenirs?
Thanks

  Reply from Webmaster: Dear JY,

It might be a bit late for the summer sales, but every individual shop has its own sales period, so when you come over you may still find that there are still some discounts going on.

For interesting clothes you can go for the youth malls such as Trendy Zone in Mong Kok, or Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay. For souvenirs please try Stanley. Please read our guide for the places mentioned.
